Use classes
A fabric is classified by where it is expected to live.
Each SKU is offered for one clearly defined use class. A class without stated exclusions is a marketing tier, not a useful classification.
| Class | Where it is intended to live | Release condition |
|---|---|---|
| N1 — Covered Outdoor Decorative | Under pergolas, covered terraces, shaded balconies, verandas and seasonally protected spaces. | Safe starting class before testing is complete. |
| N2 — Open-Air Outdoor Upholstery | Cushion and upholstery use exposed to sun and short rain. | Released only when light, weathering, water repellency, mildew and care tests pass their targets. |
| N3 — Poolside & Resort | Chlorinated water, sun cream, perspiration, frequent use and professional care. | Released only when the corresponding fastness results are confirmed. |
| N4 — Marine Decorative | Decorative upholstery on yachts and boats. | Never marketed as marine before sea water, humidity, light, mildew and care results are approved. Excludes safety-critical awnings, covers and structural marine applications. |

Language discipline
Words we will not use until we can support them
Some terms in this category are used so loosely that they have stopped carrying information. Each of the following has a written publication condition, and none appears anywhere on our surfaces until that condition is met.
| Term | Publication condition |
|---|---|
| Waterproof | Requires the relevant hydrostatic pressure test and a stated use limit. |
| Water-repellent | Requires ISO 4920 or equivalent, plus performance after care. |
| UV-resistant | Requires the light or weathering standard, the result and the score. |
| Mould-proof | Never used. Where verified, the term is 'mildew resistant'. |
| Sustainable | Requires measurable, verifiable product-level evidence. |
| Eco-friendly | Never used. |
| Organic cotton | Not used without a valid product and supply-chain certificate. |
| Non-toxic | Never used. The relevant harmful substance standard is stated instead. |
| Plastic-free | Not used until finish, coating, packaging and components are all verified. |
| OEKO-TEX certified | Only where the finished article falls in a valid scope, always with the number. |
| GOTS certified | Only where the finished, finished-goods article is genuinely in scope. |
| Marine grade | Not used before sea water, UV, mildew, care and required project tests pass. |
| Antibacterial | Never presented as evidence of mildew or fungal resistance. They are different organisms and different test methods; a result for one says nothing about the other. |
On environmental claims
We do not rely on the assumption that cotton is automatically sustainable. An environmental claim requires measurable data, a defined scope and a stated comparison method. "Natural" is not a synonym for "sustainable", and we do not use it as one.
Performance Passport
Every claim, made visible.
Each SKU carries a passport, reachable on the web and by QR code on the packaging. It records the product name and SKU, fibre composition, fabric base, weight and finished width, print method, finish type and verified properties, use class, test results and dates, recommended care, country of manufacture, lot reference, packaging and use warnings, and certificate scope with validity links.
It is not only a trust device. It is the data infrastructure that prepares the brand for the forthcoming European Digital Product Passport — which it does not claim to replace.
Questions about our testing
Why is the launch classification N1?
N1 describes the covered, shaded and seasonally protected settings for which the launch collection is offered. We do not extend that scope through broad category language or supplier-level data.
What can I specify today?
N1 — Covered Outdoor Decorative. Pergolas, covered terraces, shaded balconies, verandas and seasonally protected spaces. It is a clear, usable specification with defined exclusions.
How does the selected test profile apply to the collection?
A shared collection profile of selected highest documented SGS results. Different tests may refer to different source specimens; collection-wide use follows the product owner's scope confirmation. The methods, conditions and source records are listed on this page. This is a selected results profile, not the complete test history of one specimen.
What happens if the finish changes?
The product becomes a new version and the old report does not carry over. This is a hard rule, not a judgement call.
Is the Performance Passport the same as the EU Digital Product Passport?
No, and we do not claim it is. It is our own product passport, and it prepares us in data terms for the forthcoming European Digital Product Passport. It does not stand in for the legal instrument.
